St Mary's Academy serves a varied and interesting neighbourhood with the pupils and their families representing a rich diversity of cultures, beliefs and languages. The Academy draws upon its many cultural groups to enrich the curriculum. The Academy is firmly committed to equality of opportunity and this is apparent in all aspects of life within it.

St Mary's Academy is a church school by foundation and is a converter academy. Its governors include representatives of the parish, the Diocese,  parents, teachers and the local community.

The pleasant and attractive school site comprises a two storey main building which includes a nursery class and two mobile classrooms. Altogether the site accommodates eleven classes of infants and junior pupils and a fifty-two place part time nursery class.

The Academy encourages a good rapport with parents, governors, local community, and neighbouring schools. Parents are welcome into school, and are asked to take an active part in their child's learning and celebrate their achievements.

Over the years we have supported a number of other primary schools with Leadership and Management support. We have supported a range of schools in Birmingham and in other Local Authorities. St Mary’s C of E Primary Academy is a National Support School and therefore delivers support programmes, courses and reviews for other schools. Until last academic year St Mary’s was partnered with St Michael’s C of E Primary, Handsworth.  Initially, St Michaels was in ‘special measures’ and is now judged as a good school by OFSTED. As part of succession planning, the Executive Deputy who was seconded to St Michael’s has returned to St Mary’s as Head Teacher.
